Steve Wilhoit – Town of Osgood Gas Utility

As chilly days return, our furnaces are about to wake up from their summer nap. Before winter settles in, take a few moments to make sure your heating system is ready:
Check your furnace filters
Ensure air vents are clear
Schedule a seasonal tune-up
 Safety First
Natural gas remains one of the safest and most efficient energy choices when used properly. It offers steady comfort and often costs less than electric heat — helping you stay warm without breaking the bank.

If you plan to use space heaters, please follow these safety tips:

  • Keep them at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn.
  • Plug directly into a wall outlet — never use extension cords.
  • Never leave them unattended.

Also, remember to:

  • Test your carbon monoxide (CO) alarms and replace batteries if needed.
  • Keep exhaust and intake vents clear of snow and debris.
  • Clear snow and clutter from your gas meter.

In Case of a Gas Leak
If you smell gas (like rotten eggs) or suspect a leak:

  1. Leave the area immediately.
  2. Call 911 or our 24-hour call center at (812) 689-0178.

Your safety is always our top priority.
Stay warm, stay safe,
